Sponsored links & DR: how it works

Danish clubs and associations have sponsor pages that link to their sponsors. These are real sponsorships with a side benefit for your visibility. Here's how it works — including what other link sellers would rather not say out loud.

1. What is DR — and what isn't it?

Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' 0–100 scale for how strong a domain's link profile is. It's a comparison figure, not a Google metric: Google doesn't use DR, and a high DR is no guarantee of rankings. DR is useful for one thing: quickly sorting which domains have weight behind them and which don't.

2. Dofollow vs. nofollow — the difference between value and decoration

A link can carry a rel attribute: nofollow or sponsored asks search engines not to count the link. A link without those attributes — "dofollow" in everyday speech — can pass value. The catch: you can't tell the difference with the naked eye. A good-looking sponsor page can show your logo and still pass zero link value, either because the link is nofollow or because there's no link at all in the rendered page.

3. That's why we verify before sale

Every placement in our catalog is rel-checked on the actual rendered page — not from the club's sales material. After purchase we check again that your link is live, points the right way and is still dofollow, and the domain's DR is updated daily. If the link drops or the page changes, we spot it — not you, three months later.

4. The honest part: what Google thinks

No beating around the bush

Google's guidelines say that paid links — including sponsor links — should be marked with rel="sponsored" or nofollow. Links bought to influence rankings are treated as link spam. Many sponsor pages don't mark their links, and a market exists in that gap — but if Google cracks down, the risk sits with your domain and with the club's site.

That's why we sell sponsor placements — real sponsorships of real associations, with visibility and goodwill as the product — and we never guarantee placements, rankings or DR impact. The decision to use sponsorships in your link profile is yours; our job is to make sure you know exactly what you're buying.

5. Renewal: a sponsorship is a subscription

Most sponsorships run per season or per year. When the agreement expires, the link goes. We keep track of the renewal dates and warn you before it happens — so you decide whether the placement should continue.

RememberSponsoring a local club is also just good marketing: your name in front of members, parents and the local community. The link value is the side benefit — not the whole calculation.
